Introduction :
Movie-Key Ltd ™. is positioned to become a market leader in delivering multimedia entertainment content, changing the way people rent movies and other media, through the use of its unique, cost- effective digital system.
The technology utilizes the tiny new high capacity memory stick (sometimes referred to as a DiskOnKey as its delivery media and an interactive, Internet-enabled stand for downloading media onto the key. The key is then inserted into a simple add-on set-top box for playback on a TV or computer.
The company expects to reach sales of $50 million within 5 years, from installing multimedia delivery systems, selling system components to third parties and providing content to all the delivery systems.
The vending machine can be installed in hotels, hospitals, central bus stations, train stations, airports, universities, movie rental locations, shopping centers, gas stations, ships and car rental companies.
The company will use the Internet to download encrypted movies and advertising to its interactive stands throughout the world.
In each country or area, Movie-Key’s local operator or third-party franchiser purchases the titles for the hotels where Movie-Key systems are installed.
Movie-Key’s central server encrypts the titles with a proprietary code that allows only Movie-Key’s equipment to play the movies. Movie-Key’s central server transmits the encrypted movie files over the Internet to the hotel systems.
In each location a dedicated IBM based Kiosk computer serves as the local Movie-Key multimedia rental station. Titles are thus downloaded to and stored on hotel Movie-Key servers, from which they can be downloaded on demand to 1-2 GB Disk-On-Keys.
Downloading a movie to the memory stick should take no more than 3 minutes, during which time the credit card is read and approved for a transaction.
The customer inserts the memory stick into the Movie-Key set top box, which relays the contents to the TV for viewing.
